A Despatch from the Admiral forwarding the

rebel leader Hung Chun Kwai, alias Hung Fuk, nicknamed Sam Tsin

Sui; who on several occasions in Hongkong secretly plotted rebel-

lious movements.

The writer had received telegraphic in-

structions from the Governor-General and Governor ordering the

arrest of this man, whereupon the Admiral secretly despatched

his trustworthy Lieutenants Bo Wai Tsung, Lau Kam Ut and Lam

Shan, to proceed to Hongkong, distribute bribes far and wide and

get sure clues for this man's arrest. These officers reported

that by broadcast use of bribes in Hongkong they had obtained

sure information and were in a position to effect this rebel's

capture and would be able to forward him. They also reported

that this rebel had already shaved off his beard, and they said

that they heard that the high authorities at Canton had offered

$3,000 reward. The writer then sent a letter to the Provincial

Treasurer who replied that a reward of $30,000 would be given

for him alive and $20,000 if dead. This information was shown to

the spies who were ordered to diligently press the matter for- ward. The writer also gave orders for the Gunboat Kwong Hang to anchor at Chik fom to await further instructions. Now Ho Wai Tsung and the others on their return to Fu Mun report that on the 26th. day of the present moon, they together with their spies, after careful consultation, sent a small boat to anchor at a secluded spot at Hongkong to wait and on the afternoon of that day the rebel leader Hung Chun Kwai was made insensible by being drugged, and was wrapped up in some cloth and placed upon the small boat, which thereupon immediately set sail.
